Here are a few of my favourite things:
Kicking the ball
Aeroplanes in the sky
The shining moon
The Deewangi song from Om Shanti Om
Cuddling up with mama
Running after cats, dogs and pigeons
Nani’s heritage – Hrit
These days I’m into heavy cleaning. A bit of spillage and I go running for the mop. The problem is that I haven’t been able to figure out which piece of cloth is the mop… so I get whatever I can lay my hands on … floor mats, rugs, dusters… anything. Mama says I’ve inherited this cleanliness mania from nani. Anyway someone has to do the dirty job.
Roti khao khush ho jao! – Naisha
Today is quite a landmark day for me because I had my first real grown up lunch… roti dal the proper way, like how mama eats – bite by bite. Since the day mama had seen our molars she’d been after our lives to start eating dal and roti. Now if you have been eating things like rice and daliya or even roti soaked in dal or milk for over a year the whole concpet seems a waste of time. I mean why should one chew and chew when one can swallow? Anyway one thing life had taught me is that grown ups have a rather wierd way of thinking and often prefer to do things the complicated way. So I kind of accepted the fact that I will have to sooner or later start chewing. Today at Aditi aunty’s house I was so ravenously hungry that the smell of roti dripping with ghee just got to me. And when Yash and Laddoo sat down to eat I kind of piled on. But Aditi Aunty didn’t mind at all. In fact she was celebrating with mama. And then to add to the celebration I had a gulab jamun as well… that had mama swooning with happiness. The only catch was that Hrit Bhai barely ate anything … but then too much happiness might not be good for mama’s heart. What say?
Mama – Hrit and Naisha
Mothers can be really embarrassing. Now we don’t want to hurt her feelings and all that but we just have to say that she gets a bit over excited about everything we do. We are over a year old now and one would think she would have gotten used to the idea of us growing up and learning and doing new things every day. But no, she just hasn’t got the hang of it yet. She’s perpetually surprised, shocked and thrilled by the things we do. And she’s always running either to the phone or the camera all day. She’s continuously clicking away and yet she’s always ruing the fact that she missed this and she missed that. She still regrets that she has no video of Hrit bhai’s ‘slithering’ days. A new expression, a smile, a frown, a yawn even a blink… she wants to capture it all.
And then, she’s perpetually calling up nani, dadi, bua, masi or who ever else she can think of. Neighbours (poor things) and guests are not spared either. The other day, at the vegetable shop, she launched off on our escapades to a total stranger… all the poor thing had done was stop and exclaim ‘how cute’ to the two of us. Actually one can’t totally blame her…the moment people hear we’re twins they start confirming all their theories… Do they cry together? Do they have similar habits? And on and on…Now when she’s invited to dwell on her favourite topic, who can blame for overdoing it?
It’s all footwork – Hrit
I shoudln’t be bragging but I can do some cool footwork as in I can really kick the ball well. Mama says it’s like I had formal training… the way I step back a few paces before I deliver my mighty kick… quite like a professional footballer. Even strangers comment on how powerful my kick is. And yes… I just might turn out to be a leftie… I like to use my left foot and shake hands with my left hand. Mama keeps trying to make me put out my right hand saying ‘it’s bad manners to give your left hand’, but I see no difference. Abhishek Bachchan’s leftie too, isn’t he?
