I believe in astrology. Actually, I’m a convert – a relatively new one – since yesterday to be precise. Here’s how that happened. I woke up yesterday morning in a fairly happy frame of mind. Today the kids have their math paper and we were almost done with the portion. Then I happened to glance at my forecast for the day. Here’s what it said.
(The atmosphere and vibes at home are peaceful, and even if an argument takes you by surprise, your manner of reacting will soothe and heal.)
It only confirmed what I thought the day was going to be like. What could go wrong? The kids’ portion was done and we had the whole day ahead of us to revise.
Or so I thought!
I forgot how very fickle Math can be. Maybe the children were distracted or overconfident or simply had had enough, they just wouldn’t get their sums right. It seemed like all the practise of the day before had been wiped clean. After a point they refused to do any more. I was loath to give up because I knew they could do it. However the more I pushed the more they resisted.
That’s the point where things would have gone downhill had I not read that forecast. But however much an oxymoron it might seem, I was prepared to handle the ‘surprise arguments’ – to soothe and heal. 🙂 :-). So I let go for a while and by afternoon things were beginning to fall into place once more.
That is how the day’s prophesy for me came true and I turned into a believer.
On a serious note I think the magic of astrology lies in believing as does the magic of success and achievement. Had my forecast said, something like Arguments-at-home-will-mess-your-day I would have probably believed that as well and despaired. But I didn’t. I hung onto my impatience because I knew I was supposed to be having a peaceful day.
This, I figured, was quite a neat little trick – one we could use with the children. All we have to do is to make them believe they are awesome and they’ll really make themselves awesome.
I’ll be looking up my forecast everyday now and making it come true, subject to the fact that it says something good. If it doesn’t, I’ll be writing my own to make sure I have a good day everyday.
You can write yours too. Have a happy week.

Hahaha Congratulations for making it a peaceful day. Yes you did it.
the headline of the post caught my attention 🙂 I love reading a couple of astrology sites, not so much for the predictions which I tend to forget even as I read but the way they write….making it sound so relevant to one twelfth of the population…and doing this month on month…Loved the post btw.
I used to read them first thing in the morning and that would set the tone of my day. And then I grew up! LOL 😀
I liked how you transformed your day with that one positive thought!
Heh heh Shilpa. I still look at them for fun.
I completely loved your ideology of taking the best from the horoscope and believing in it to make it come true. Haha…and the also if its not good then writing your own would be the best thing to do. All in all, keeping faith in good things is the best way forward.
Thanks Vinodini. Glad you agree. After all only we have the power to make our days happy or sad.
I used to read mine all the time as a teen, I never do anymore, but it could be fun! #mg
That's what it should be – a fun thing.
How wonderful – taking astrology in your stride. We must all do this – so long as it says something good. Else, like you said – we can 'predict' our own future to be something good. 🙂
Thanks. I've been reading my forecast everyday of late and it throws up some great laughs everyday.
I loved reading this post and i loved how you ended it! 🙂
Thanks Mayuri.
Now that's how one can make the predictions true. Are their exams still going on? Hope you get a breather soon 🙂
Yes Raj. Another ten days to go.
LOL!! Congrats on your conversion then?! 😀 Glad you let it go for a while! Sometimes that really helps!
OOOh yes.. specially with Math. A short break works well.
I love how you made the forecast work for you. 🙂 Yes, it is something we can make work with children too.
Thanks Shail. What we think will happen does influence our actions.
I like the way you see things. Nothing wrong with expecting peace and good things, as sometimes the expectation helps to bring them about.
I've read lots of the power of positive thinking. And although it isn't always easy to follow, it does help.
That's a great way to lead an optimistic life. Don't they say, believe in your dreams and you're half way there? I used to think astrology was rubbish, to me it all looked the same. Now you've given a different outlook to that. 🙂
Exactly. Believing is half the task done.
Hope the exams went well. Thoughts create reality. Love how you approached this.
Thanks Suzy. Exams are still on. Almost ten more days to go.
True… Its what you believe. Reading the daily forcase kinda plays on your mind, and very often when you do get under their influence, your thoughts and actions do tend to take shape as per the prediction. Best dont read them, and if you just have a laugh and brush it off. 🙂
True – if the negatives influence you too much it's better tp stay away.
Lol! I don't mind reading it if it's all positive. Only when they post something like you need to be careful today, I'm like.. nah.. not for me.
You got it. That's the best way to approach them.
I do think there is a great deal of placebo effect BUT in the case of good results, is that really so bad?
My point exactly. No harm in it if it does you good.
I really like that outlook, of using the astrology to try and channel some positivity. I'm a huge believer in star-signs but not so much in the daily horoscopes, perhaps now I should take another look! X #mg
Glad you agree. Forecasts are fun as long as they're positive.
HoroscopeS I never read on important days. It makes me prone to worry
That's true of course. They can seriously mess with your head if you begin to take them seriously.
He he I like your pov. I think that's true though, what you believe in ardently, manifests. So glad to see that happening here! And no, I don't believe in horoscopes. Do read them for the fun element though.
I don't either. I too read them occasionally just for a lark.
Ha ha! That's a cute one. How did the exam go? 😉 And then the conversation at home? Fun post!
Still going on Parul, Oh and the exams ALWAYS go well – it's the result that's good or bad.
I do read them now and then .. sometimes they come true something they dont ..
Bikram's
True that. It's a lot of guess work.
I do not believe in them but I do read them daily for a good laugh 🙂
Most of them seem to tell me that I will find love soon and a proposal is coming my way. I'm like well, maybe it is reading the past instead 😛
Heh heh.. at least they're getting your past right.
hahaha I also read these horoscopes once in a while only idly. It is fun when they sometimes predict a calm and peaceful which is hardly every possible in my day. 🙂
I believe them only when they say something good. Yeah calm days are few and far between.
Hahaha Congratulations for making it a peaceful day. Yes you did it. That was a cool idea to make children believe in their awesomeness and they will mirror that. As mothers we are more awesome than just awesome 😀 The curious part of me wants to question why has your children's school having exams during Navratri when there should be holidays?
I don't think the school is to blame Anamika. The festive season starts right from August and goes on till December. Exams will have to fall somewhere in between.
