A whole new world

A whole new world

Once upon a time life was:
A vibrant work environment : People to meet, interviews to slot, night shifts to get through, copies to edit, pages to be made, designers-ad guys-systems guys to bicker with
A bunch of friends: first day first shows, long hours at the gym, shopping in the old city, countless evenings at the coffee house
The Husband and I: Long conversations, Late night television, Endless games of scrabble, dinners with friends.
Our cosy comfort zone.
And then..
A decision.
To step out.
A new life for us
with two new lives.
A whole new world.

Beginnings

Beginnings

She watched the busy birds as they flew to and fro building their nest. ‘They will have babies soon’, she mused. ‘And I never will,’ crept in the thought unwillingly. It was weeks since she’d lost her unborn child and the hope of ever having one. Days passed but she stayed in bed feeling drained. Drained of energy and emotion, she lay watching that nest, staring with unseeing eyes.
One morning she woke up to the lively ‘cheep cheep’ of tiny birds. And then suddenly it moved.. that lump in heart. ‘Let’s adopt a baby’, she said to her husband.

It’s Day 6 of the Marathon Bloggers Drabble Week and the topic for the 100 word drabble is Suddenly it moved..

I am a Dog

I am a Dog

I am a DOG. I am not a toy. I’m not a doll. I am not a clown. I’m NOT human and I’m not vain.
I value my comfort and freedom. I walk happiest on four feet. I hate it when I cannot wag my tail for someone I love, when I cannot bound up happily to lick his face, when that darned ‘dress’ threatens to trip me up each time I run. I do not feel cute. I feel hampered and uncomfortable and ridiculously silly.

Save the vanities for you and your kind. Leave me a cheerful scruffy frump.

Just before the day ends here’s my 100 word drabble for day 3 of the Marathon Bloggers Drabble week. Today’s topic is If I were an animal.

The tragic pumpkin

The tragic pumpkin

Listlessly she watched mum haggling with the vendor. She hated vegetable shopping. She hated vegetables – slimy things that made dinner times a trial. She glared at the fat pumpkin on the shelf.
And then it heaved a sigh. She stared. Two huge tears rolled down its ‘cheeks’. Could it hear her think? ‘Yes I can,’ said he. Said? She couldn’t believe it. ‘I cannot believe it…’, he sniffed, ‘…you hate me so.’ The sniff turned into wracking sobs and then to her absolute shock the pumpkin exploded.
‘May I please have pumpkin for lunch?’ she asked her mum next morning.
The topic for the 100 word drabble on day 2 at the Marathon Bloggers Drabble Week is “The pumpkin exploded”. This is a story I picked from the twins’ childhood… okay babyhood.
Blessing in disguise

Blessing in disguise

She shaded her eyes
scouring the streets for an auto. “Who will be out in 45 degrees on Sunday
except a slave like me?” she grumbled moving her heavy bag to the other
shoulder. She cursed her boss for insisting she send the report today.
“Hi, may I drop you
somewhere?”

There’s something about men
on bikes.. isn’t it?
It was HIM, the new guy in
her society, quite the handsomest man ever.
‘You going home?” His
dimples shown.
‘I umm… yes.” She realised
she had been staring and was now stuttering.
‘Well hop on, then.”
And she did.
She loved her boss.

What a blessing in
disguise!
