Somedays I want
No food to cook, no beds to make
No laundry to fold, no rugs to shake
No fights to sort of girls and boys
a little respite from all that noise
No kids who slowly drive me mad
Not even their ever wonderful dad.
Somedays I want to put up my feet
to pick out a book and read and read
to sit in a mess if that’s what I want
to wear raggedy rags I wouldn’t dare flaunt
to swing in a swing or snuggle under a quilt
to watch mindless TV without a shred of guilt.
to listen to a song and sing out loud
or lie on the grass and watch a cloud.
To rekindle a friendship over a hot cup of tea
A long forgotten friendship with myself and me.
In the books and quilt, the grass and the sky
Maybe that’s where I’ll find a little bit of ‘I’.
Linking to ABC Wednesday for the letter ‘I’ with thanks to Mrs Nesbitt who thought up ABC Wednesday.
Oh I wish! That's a lovely poem tulika.. loved reading
Thanks Lavina.
Hi OM !!! how have you been? hope all's well 🙂
Lovely lines… Reminded me of the last couple of days that I had to myself..to rest n recover from a crazy busy schedule that came to an end last week.
Priya.. My God… Where have you been? Good to see you here.
I saw an old friend (from 1958!) Saturday, and talked with another (from 1976!) yesterday!

Friends make for great stressbusters. Good going Rog.
Oh I want that too! Not even a day, just half a day would suffice 🙂 If only.
Ha ha Smitha you are easily satisfied.
Oh yes! I would love days like those!!
We all would Roshni.
Yes the 'me' time. 🙂
Very well expressed and good take on 'I'.
Happy ABCW!
Thanks Indrani. Me time is precious.
Sometimes we need to take care of ourselves for sure.
Ann
Sure we do – but we need to remind ourselves sometimes.
Super poem…I can see taking a line a day and using it for my goal♪ http://lauriekazmierczak.com/incline/
That's a good idea. A line a day! Nice.
Yes we all need that escape to rediscover that 'I' within. Very nicely written, Tulika!
Coming from you that's quite a compliment. Thanks Beloo.
This is every ones desire.
Glad you think so.
Fabulous "prayer" 😀 Love it Tulika!
Thanks Vidya.
Such a wonderful and apt poem, so spontaneous and just plain truth. Tulika you have written about the stuff of fantasies 😉 we all want a couple of days maybe even a week like that!
Thank you Inderpreet – a week like that wow!!
🙂 so beautifully vivid!!
Thank you Magic eye! A road trip on a bike wouldn't be too bad either 😉
Great poem' I am impressed. I wish you a great week
Wil, ABCW
Thanks Wil. You have a good week too.
Going to sleep with an image of chai and clouds and blue skies.. and it's all your fault :). Hope to have a day like this sometime soon, and the same to you too!
Thanks Aparna. Hope you slept well and had happy dreams.
I want that too! This is amazing because you perfectly mirrored my own wants and thought. I can so relate to this. Awesome!!!!
Glad you could relate. But then busy women/moms have pretty much the same dreams and desires.
Loved this tulika…its amazing how some very basic and mundane activities become luxuries…
Yes, specially after you become a mom. Life changes.
Wow! That sounds so relaxing and comforting. Can I come and squeeze in with you and Shailaja!
Sure you can. We'll make a party out of it.
Amen to that!! :))
Thanks Shilpa.
Can I join you and can we each be our individual selves, side by side? Sigh … I need a break.
Of course you can.. we'll watch the clouds together 🙂
Some days I want that too Tulika…Somedays I just want to be with my books and myself…free!!
Bliss, it would be, isn't it?
